Joining up with Rich and fellow hikers opened my eyes as I discovered a beautiful side of Hong Kong that I had never experienced. From the beauty of Dragon’s Back to seeing remote temples or Hong Kong’s wildlife during a night time hike around the Aberdeen reservoir, hiking in Hong Kong is a great adventure. What’s more it is a great way to get fit and a very enjoyable way to burn those calories. Forget about treadmills in the gym, Rich puts together walks and training plans to meet your individual needs, which are fun but also gets results.

Abundant thanks to Rich who put together an amazing 2013 Trailwalker training plan and personally see us through every single session, whether you’re leading the pack (“gotta finish as team of four, mate” he’d bark) or trailing at the back (he’d slow down and make sure you’re all right). Ok Rich, tell me how many rounds of beer does this earn me? Haha just kidding … all true and without the slightest embellishment!

Rich has been my trusted hiking adviser and trainer for nearly 15 years and has helped me to prepare for both HK Trailwalker and Green Power. We have also hiked overseas with a remarkable climb of Mount Fuji in Japan in 2003. He knows just how to push you beyond what you think are your own limits. I don’t know anyone who knows the HK trails as well as him.

Rich trained me for the 50km Green Power hike and, in my 50s, I managed to do this in just over 9hrs. I couldn’t have done this without his patient encouragement and his tips on what to do and what not to do. Manages to make tough physical exercise into a pleasant jaunt. Knows the paths back to front and can adjust the walk to suit your state of readiness. Brilliant.
